Description
Summary:High academic pressure, strict discipline, and social dynamics in Islamic boarding schools trigger panic attacks. This study aims to examine the role of Kiai as a counselor in overcoming panic attacks with a spiritual approach in Islamic boarding schools. This study used a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach at the Pesantren Takhasus Al-Qur'an Kalibeber Wonosobo. The results showed that the psychological pressure experienced by students was quite significant. The symptoms were excessive anxiety, restlessness, and difficulty in social interaction. Kiai played an essential role in relieving panic attacks through dhikr and prayer, Islamic reflection therapy, counseling based on Al-Qur'an values, and an individual approach. Several of these methods were able to reduce panic attack symptoms, increase emotional stability, and provide students with confidence in dealing with stress. The dynamics of interpersonal relationships between Kiai and students were the main supporting factors for the effectiveness of this approach. This study concluded that the integration of spiritual guidance, Islamic counseling methods, and social support created a conducive Islamic boarding school environment for students' mental recovery. These findings provide theoretical and practical contributions by emphasizing the importance of a holistic approach combining spiritual, psychological, and social aspects to support students' mental health.
