Description
Summary:The immanent and the economic Trinity refer to the distinction and relation of the Trinity in its immanent and economic aspects. This is a central concern of the Christian doctrine of the Trinity. This article explores (1) the development of the concepts relevant to this doctrinal locus that are taken up in the discussion of the immanent and economic Trinity, (2) the modern thesis of identity of immanent and economic Trinity that received its determinative form in the works of Karl Barth and Karl Rahner, and (3) the range of views on the subject that have followed their work. Closely related doctrines are noted, and selective, but representative, figures are identified.
