description A growing number of independent shopkeepers are claiming that their supply strategy is part of a transformation of the food system. Based on a study conducted among greengrocers in Paris between 2018 and 2020, we show how these practices are linked to a redefinition of their role as intermediary, which manifests itself on the one hand by a distinction from conventional shops, and on the other hand by the construction of new relationships with producers and consumers. The resulting diversity of representations of the profession has an influence on the territorialization of alternative shopkeepers’ supply strategies.
