| description | Objective To investigate genetic subtypes and drug resistance in untreated patients with HIV-1 infection in Qingdao. Methods A retrospective analysis was performed for the genetic subtypes, drug resistance, and other clinical data of patients with new-onset HIV-1 infection who attended the outpatient service of Department of Dermatology in our hospital. Results Genotype monitoring and detection of drug resistance loci were performed for 113 patients with HIV-1 infection before antiretroviral therapy (ART). Genetic testing identified 5 HIV-1 gene subtypes, with CRF01_AE and CRF07_BC as the main gene subtypes, and there were no significant differences between the patients with different subtypes in sex, age, peripheral blood CD4+ T lymphocyte count, plasma viral load, and drug resistance (P>0.05). The results of drug resistance test showed that 26 patients had drug-resistance gene mutation, among whom 6 patients developed at least one type of drug resistance with a low level or above, with an overall drug resistance rate of 5.3%. As for the antiviral drugs, the drug resistance rates to non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs), nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs), protease inhibitors, and integrase inhibitors (INSTIs) were 4.4%, 0.9%, 1.8%, and 0.9%, respectively, and 1 patient developed multiple resistance to NNRTIs, NRTIs, and INSTIs. Conclusion CRF01_AE and CRF07_BC are the main gene subtypes in patients with new-onset HIV-1 infection in Qingdao area, and the level of drug resistance before ART is at the average level of the world, with NNRTIs-related drug resistance as the main type of drug resistance. |
