Description
Summary:The article describes the boy cott of German spas and resorts called for by the Polish press at the end of the nine teenth and early twentieth centuries. It was a grassroots initiative organised as a protest against the policy of Germanisation carried out in the Prussian partition. The boycott was also intended to increase the popularity of the spas located in the Polish lands. It was disputed whether or not the “Polish” Sopot, located in the Kashubian region, should be included. Calls for a boycott worried the German authorities, but had limited eff ect in practice. The decline in the number of spa visitors turned out to be temporary. One reason for this was the poor service quality off ered by the resorts located in the Polish lands.
