description In the context of the Little Ice Age (LIA), the Maldà Oscillation (1760-1800), a period characterized by the succession and simultaneity of extreme meteorological events in the Mediterranean basin, lasted for decades with large floods or long-lasting drought phases, Megadroughts. Using the case of Barcelona, we will analyze the impact of environmental instability on agricultural production and public health, especially during the epidemic outbreaks of fevers that occurred on 1818, during the great dry phase between 1812 and 1824. Specifically, we will focus on the analysis of the reactions in the management of water resources, on the impact of human activities on the worsening of health conditions in the Barcelona environment and on the responses produced by health mechanisms.
