description Background: Today, one of the major factors in reduced efficiency and loss of human resources, is burnout in the staff. This problem has the adverse effects of physical, in addition has psychological adverse too. This study "determine the effect burnout on social support and self-esteem in health care workers". Methods: This analytical cross- sectional study was carried out on 130 staff employed in health centers. They were selected with cluster sampling and simple random. Data was collected by questionnaire (Burn out,Self-esteem,Saocial support). Results were analyzed in spss11.5. Results: 96.2 percent of staff had high self-esteem, and social support at 51/5 percent was high and the dimensions of burnout, the mean sufficiency was 31.78+8.726 of 48, the mean emotional exhaustion in employees was 26.53+12.624 of 54 and the mean of depersonalization was 5.70+5.444 of 30. There was a significant relationship between burnout dimensions, and gender, work experience, marital status, place of work and type of job (p<0.05), So that depersonalization in men and married and workers in urban centers more than other employees,and emotional exhaustion in women, married and in staff who worked at city centers was higher than the other. Ther was a significant correlation and reverse between social support and emotional exhaustion (r=-0.294 & p<0.001), so when the social support in staff was high, the emotional exhaution was less at them. Conclusion: Due to relationship between burnout and social support, the authorities should be considered to reduce stressors and increase job satisfaction in staff by improving work conditions in health centers.
