| description | A number of environmental characteristics of the city as a special biospheric urbanized taxon, including important issues of inventory collection, recycling and the development of closed technological systems are analyzed in this article. Improving solid waste management is one of the most effective ways to strengthen overall municipal management and is usually an important condition for other, more complicated, municipal services. Solid waste is unavoidably linked to urbanization and overall economic development. Today, more than 50 percent of the world's population lives in cities, and the rate of urbanization is on the rise. By 2050, as many people will live in cities as the population of the whole world in 2000. This will certainly add various challenges to waste disposal. Citizens, corporations, and cities will likely need to assume more responsibility for waste generation and disposal, especially in the area of product design and waste separation. |
