description In the field of pragmatics, Salvatore Attardo formulated the perlocutionary cooperative principle; the definition of this principle, given by its author, is "to cooperate in whatever goals the speaker may have in initiating a conversational exchange, including any non-linguistic, practical goal". This paper essentially aims to analyse the modality in which this principle, along with the classic Gricean cooperative principle, shapes the judgments of the Court of Justice of the European Union. In fact, the article reveals the pragmatic mechanisms used by the Court of Justice in achieving certain legal interpretations, required by the national courts in order to provide practical solutions for specific cases. In this regard, it is important to remember that every case supposes individual ‘needs’ that are nothing else than "practical goals".
