THE ATTEMPTS TO SECURE THE U.S.-MEXICO BORDER DURING THE PRESIDENCY OF JOE BIDEN
The border between the United States and Mexico is a very important element of politics, not only from the perspective of bilateral relations between these countries. Due to the multitude and complexity of problems that accumulate in this border zone, it constitutes a very important challenge for the inter-American security system. The aim of the work is to answer the research questions: 1) what instruments has the Biden administration proposed to secure the border of the United States with Mexico? 2) what effects did Joe Biden’s policy cause? 3) to what extent were the solutions proposed by President Biden a continuation of the policy pursued by President Donald Trump? The following research methods were used in the article: case study, descriptive, comparative, source criticism and quantitative data analysis. The sources were documents from various US administration bodies (e.g. Department of State, Congressional Research Service reports, National Security Strategy). The analysis carried out allowed for the conclusion that the migration policy implemented by the Joe Biden administration did not have the intended effects, and even caused the emergence of new dangerous phenomena (competence dispute between state and federal authorities).
