| Summary: | It is shown that the quartz crystal microbalance method can be utilized to study adsorption-desorption processes proceeding for several seconds and more. The pulse of sorbate vapor with half-width of a few seconds can be obtained by the injection of a dose of liqud sorbate at appropriate evaporator temperature and flow rate of carrier gas with the use of a device combined with the flow-through cell of the type of electronic nose. The use of piezoquartz resonator with a chemical coating based on a metal stearate, thiolate or cross-linked polymer is proposed as a simple, relatively quick-response sensor to control the current adsorbate concentration in gas phase. The method has been applied for determination of effective diffusion coefficients in the process of ethanol adsorption-desorption on fine dispersed macroporous sulfonic acid resin Amberlyst 15. |
