description | <strong>Foundation:</strong> 72 % of the world's lakes and wetlands are contaminated by urban and industrial discharges that cause more than half of known infectious diseases, including dermatological diseases. <br /><strong>Objective:</strong> to characterize patients aged 6 to 12 years old diagnosed with dermatological diseases who were exposed to the waters of the Apangora River in the González Suárez parish. <br /><strong>Methods:</strong> a descriptive, cross-sectional and retrospective study was carried out from July to December 2023. The population consisted of 45 pediatric patients between 6 and 12 years of age with dermatological diseases. The analyzed variables were: age, sex, skin color, dermatological diseases and time of exposure to contaminated water. The information obtained was processed using Microsoft Excel 2010. Descriptive statistics were used and the results were expressed in numbers and percentages. <br /><strong>Results:</strong> there was a predominance of patients aged 12 years with 24.4 %, and a prevalence of males of 66.7 % and mixed skin color of 62.2 % of the total. Among the dermatological diseases diagnosed, the most common were dermatitis with 31.1 % and dermatophytosis with 20 %. There was a predominance of exposure time to river water of more than 6 hours among the patients treated. <br /><strong>Conclusions:</strong> there was a predominance of patients aged 12 years, males and mixed skin color. The most common dermatological diseases diagnosed were dermatitis and dermatophytosis. There was a predominance of exposure time to river water of more than 6 hours among the patients studied. |
