description This paper deals with the propaganda used by Emperor Maximilian I during the Swiss/Swabian War of 1499, and in particular the mandate of April 22nd. In accordance with the genuine communication situation of the Early Modern period, it was necessary to adapt the respective framework conditions to the corresponding time segment through a theoretical determination of the communication situation. Based on these theoretical premises, this study analyses original sources according to their propagandistic dimensions and investigates the context, the addressed audience and the declared purpose correspondingly.
