Description
Summary:Children raised in violent family environments begin to adopt violence as a problem solving mechanism and resort to violence to in their attempts to solve their problems in non-family life. The present study focuses on the effects of violence on the behaviour of adolescents who are raised in violent domestic environments. To this end, a comprehensive survey was applied to 2.383 high school students who were selected as representatives of high schools in central Antalya province. The correlations between the students’ exposure to domestic violence and their use of verbal and physical violence in their social environment have been revealed in the essay. According to the findings of the research; compared to those not exposed to domestic violence, high school students subjected to physical violence by their parents are more likely to perpetrate physical and verbal violence against others; more likely to treat animals with violence; they feel more aggression and anger, and cause more harm to themselves. Likewise, young people who witness interparental violence display more tendencies of verbal and physical violence than those who do not; feel more aggression and anger, give more harm to themselves, and perpetrate more violence against animals.
