| Summary: | A 25-year-old one-eyed male presented with a complaint of diminution of vision in the right eye (RE) which was gradually progressive for 2 years and associated with redness, foreign body sensation, and pain. On examination, he had conjunctival hyperemia, conjuctivization of the entire cornea, and complete loss of palisades of Vogt in both eyes with irregular fluorescein staining. Schirmer test suggested moderate dry eye. A provisional diagnosis of BE severe limbal stem cell deficiency (LSCD) was made and RE Type I keratoprosthesis (K-pro) was planned followed by minor salivary gland transplantation. On 2-week follow-up, RE vision improved to finger counting 4 m and tear film status improved as well. K-pro proved to be a novel method in treating our case of bilateral severe LSCD and the use of minor salivary gland transplantation acted as an adjunct in treating our patient’s underlying dry eye. |
