| description | In this article we will discuss the discourses surrounding the governance of artificial intelligence (AI) and the notions of ethics and social justice they propose, as well as how they portray AI technology. We will begin by contextualizing our analysis through an intersectional lens aimed at deconstructing the andro-, hetero-, and ethno-centric nature of AI. Next we will examine discourses in favour of ethical and just governance of AI and how they contribute to an ethical framing of the social world. Lastly, we will see that the social justice models proposed within the so-called ethical and inclusive governance of an “intelligent” technology are embedded in systems of domination and may make it harder to challenge the actualization of gender, race, and class social relations in the context of AI. |
