Description
Summary:Orogenic zones often exhibit vertical axis rotations (VAR) due to the accommodation of shortening differences along the main structural. In this work, we focus on the central Jaca-Pamplona Basin, where a Bartonian-Priabonian sequence crops out. There two magnetostratigraphic sections, Izaga and Berdún (2800 m), record about 5 Myr of the tectonic and sedimentary evolution of the basin. They have been discretized every 150 m to evaluate the rotational kinematics (spatio-temporal variations of the VAR). In the Izaga section the rotation is non-significant and noisier (dec=003º; inc=39º; a95=18°; k=23) than in the Berdún section, eastern sector, where the clockwise VAR is slightly larger (dec=008º; inc=46º; a95=10°; k=29) although it still overlaps the reference direction. Additional work is needed to refine this paleomagnetic record.
