| description | Public Sociology in Practice is a translation of a special issue in Current Sociology, “Precarious Engagements: Combat in the Realm of Public Sociology” (2014). The content of the book is provided in three sections, consisting of contextualized experiences of different authors through the world. The aim is to apply public sociology in different communities and countries. Two achievements of the book can be stated. First, the fourfold classification by Michael Burawoy in sociology (professional, policy, critical, and public) does not remain in pure form in different local contexts. Second, in every country, on the one hand, local traditions and history are concerned with sociology discipline, and on the other hand, dominant culture and politics paved the way to success or frustration of public scholar. The book shows internal professional dynamics and external dynamics in relation to the political field. |
